Maria Athanasiou

Maria Th. Athanasiou is the Founder of Athanasiou & Associates LLC, based in Cyprus. Maria is also the Founder and Managing Director of MASO Strategic. She is also a Lecturer in Maritime Law at the European University and Cyprus Maritime Academy. Maria is legal trainer in oil and gas, energy security and maritime law in Oman, Dubai, Saudi Arabia, Africa, UK, and Jordan.

Maria is a member of the Cyprus Bar Association. She holds a bachelor’s degree in law from the University of South Wales and a master’s degree in international Commercial Law from Cardiff University. She is also finalising her Doctorate in the field on the Law of the Sea at the University of Nicosia. She is also certified in the fields of International Water Law from the University of Geneva, Environmental Law and Policy from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Research Methodology from the University of London and ECOPORTIL which consist 7 certificates which includes Air quality, Energy efficiency and Climate change, Water quality (Emphasis on Oil Pollution and BWM), Waste management at ships and ports, Eco mapping of the Environmental condition in the ports, Environmental management systems (ISO, EMAS, PERS) and Legislation governing environmental protection of areas surrounding ports.

She is also a co-author of the books “The Future of the Maritime Industry” and “Global Perspectives on Maritime Occupational Wellness”.
