Philip Bacon

Vice-President of Operations Siem Shipping Ltd

Philip Bacon is a seafarer turned shipbroker, in his fourth decade working for blue-chip shipowners and energy majors. From initial naval and technical education and practice, he moved towards commercial practice and education as a Chartered Shipbroker.

More recently he has complemented his experience in arbitration and expert work by qualifying as a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Arbitrators. Philip has worked across most continents and most sectors of shipping, for Wonsild, Shell, K-Line, Gearbulk, AM Nomikos, and currently works for Siem Shipping in London. A major interest at present is in moving beyond mere environmental compliance, to moving ahead of the decarbonisation curve in current and future fleet ownership and operation.

In his spare time, Philip shares shipping knowledge, usually through the Institute of Chartered Shipbrokers, and contributes to the community e.g. through the Baltic Exchange where he chairs the Membership Committee. He is a keen sailor and swimmer, and when away from the sea, rides mountain bikes and hikes.
