Ruth Campbell

Port Chaplain Port of Tilbury Mission to Seafarers

Ruth Campbell is one of the Chaplains for the River Thames representing Mission to Seafarers.

Ruth initially stepped into this role during the pandemic in response to a crisis with 5 cruise ships and nearly 2000 crew stranded at the cruise terminal in Tilbury. Ruth has successful led a seafarer’s vaccination programme - one of the largest in the world with over 63,000 seafarers having been vaccinated on the River Thames.

In recent times Ruth identified a need for cruise crew to have access to welfare facilities and set about securing a building and project managing the cruise crew lounge now sited by the gangway at London International Cruise Terminal.

At the end of 2024, Ruth added to her role with the Mission. Championing the rights of female seafarers.
Ruth’s background in social work equips her well for the role of Port Chaplain and her Christian Faith sustains her in the day to day challenges of serving seafarers.
