Inaugural Event at Breakbulk Europe Shines Light on Industry’s Sustainability Champions
Winners took center stage at Breakbulk’s inaugural Green World Awards, held during Breakbulk Europe 2025, where the industry’s sustainability champions were honored for their contributions to a greener future in global logistics.
The ceremony at Rotterdam Ahoy shone a light on companies across the breakbulk supply chain – from transport specialists and shipbuilders to ports and start-ups – who have gone that extra mile to cut emissions, reduce waste and make our industry more sustainable.
Among the standout winners was Prism Logistics, which won both the Best Maritime Transport and Best Overland Transport awards for a “groundbreaking” multimodal project in India. The company successfully delivered 34 oversized components weighing up to 1,200 tonnes apiece and measuring 60 meters in length – an operation that covered 600 kilometers overland and 900 nautical miles by sea.
The Port of San Diego in California took home top honors in the Green Port category for a range of goals and initiatives including zero-emission technologies for fleet and cargo-handling equipment, integration of renewable energy, shore power expansion and the use of renewable fuels.
Meanwhile, Louis Dreyfus Armateurs picked up the Sustainable Ship Design award for developing a fleet of low-emission roll-on, roll-off (RoRo) vessels powered by six Norsepower Rotor Sails along with two dual-fuel engines that can run on marine diesel and e-methanol.
Additional awards were given for Eco-Friendly Equipment Provider and Best Digital Solution for Sustainability, and the People’s Choice Awards of Energy Project of the Year and Sustainability Champion of the Year.
