Icy Conditions, Mountain Terrain Complicate Overland Stretch From Poti

Tbilisi-headquartered Gianti Logistics spared no effort to ensure 38 complete wind turbine systems were securely transported across Georgia.
Executed during the country’s harsh winter months, the project faced heavy rainfall, strong winds and snow, as well as difficult mountainous terrain fraught with hairpin bends, steep gradients and narrow, precarious roads.
Gianti, one of the largest logistics firms in Georgia and the Caucasus region, began the project with detailed 2D and 3D simulations and technical drawings to identify bottlenecks and critical points along the route.
A thorough route assessment revealed the need to dismantle certain buildings to widen roadways, repair damaged sections and reinforce road surfaces to ensure the safe passage for the oversized convoys.
Meanwhile, highly specialized equipment including tower carriers, tower adapters and extendable blade trailers was acquired, marking the first time such gear had been deployed on Georgia’s road network.
Following a successful full-scale test run, preparations for vessel operations began, with Gianti organizing the loading areas at the port of Poti on Georgia’s Black Sea coast where the cargo was due to dock from China.
On arrival, the cargo was offloaded and staged in a temporary storage area before beginning its cross-country journey to Ruisi, a region known for strong gales and challenging terrain. There, rain and snow rendered mountain dirt roads tough to navigate, requiring towing support and additional traction measures.
“However, Gianti Logistics’ professional transport team and HSE supervisors did their best to handle the project with maximum care and without any incidents,” the company said.
“Through perfect synchronization between engineers, project managers, HSE manager, drivers and hydraulic operators, the operation was executed with exceptional precision and efficiency, demonstrating Gianti Logistics’ high level of expertise, seamless coordination and unwavering commitment to safety, quality and operational excellence.”
Gianti Logistics will be exhibiting at Breakbulk Europe 2026.
