Boskalis Wins Repeat Dredging Work at Aberdeen

Scope Includes Trailing Suction Hopper Dredging and Bed Leveling Operations

Boskalis Westminster has won a three-year maintenance dredging contract at the Port of Aberdeen, securing annual campaigns across the Scottish facility’s North Harbour and South Harbour through to 2028.

The award, which follows recent stormy weather that has washed significant amounts of sediment into the port, will ensure berths and navigation channels remain safe and operational for vessels up to 300 meters in length.

The work scope covers trailing suction hopper dredging and bed leveling, with Boskalis deploying its Freeway dredger alongside the MTS Valour vessel for the 2026 campaign, due to begin this month.

All activities will be carried out under license from the Marine Directorate.

Port of Aberdeen’s in-house survey team will play a central role throughout, conducting year-round hydrographic monitoring to track sediment build-up.

Detailed bathymetric surveys ahead of each campaign will determine dredging volumes and shape project planning, while interim surveys during operations will guide execution through to completion.

“The storms earlier this year deposited significant volumes of material into the port, and our survey team has been working hard to assess the impact and prepare for this year’s campaign,” said John Wilson, head of engineering at the Port of Aberdeen.

“Boskalis know the port well and we’ve been working closely with their team to ensure a safe and successful dredge in 2026 and beyond.”

The Port of Aberdeen, dubbed the “subsea capital of Europe,” is home to Boskalis Subsea Services and its fleet of advanced diving support vessels.

The Port of Aberdeen will be exhibiting at Breakbulk Europe 2026 on 16-18 June in Rotterdam. Boskalis is a member of the Breakbulk Global Shipper Network (BGSN).
