Carrier’s “Back to the Future” Initiative Raises Funds for Parkinson’s Research
During a fundraising initiative organized by AAL Shipping at Breakbulk Europe, delegates were treated to a thrilling surprise: the unveiling of the world’s most famous car – the 1985 “Back to the Future” DeLorean.
The charitable drive held in aid of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research was a big hit in Rotterdam, raising both awareness and funds for the foundation’s invaluable mission. During the fundraiser, delegates, many of whom grew up watching Marty McFly’s adventures, got the chance to sit in the legendary car and receive a souvenir Polaroid photo, souvenir photo holder and special MJF Foundation Badge.
The “Back to the Future” theme corresponded to the recent naming of the first of AAL’s “Super B-Class” heavy-lift vessels – the 32,000 deadweight AAL Limassol, set to depart on its maiden voyage in the coming days.
“The similarities between a ground-breaking car that flew its passengers to the future and a fleet of ground-breaking ships that will sail their cargoes there, was compelling,” said Felix Schoeller, managing director at AAL. “Plus, the film series and its star, Michael J Fox, are so beloved to us all. It is truly an honor to be an official fundraiser for such a noble cause and supporting vital research that will help to one day find a cure for Parkinson’s disease, which affects more than 6 million people globally.”
Hyve – the parent company of Breakbulk Events & Media – was proud to support the fundraiser, which took place at AAL’s exhibition stand during Breakbulk Europe’s welcome reception on Tuesday.
“Parkinson’s disease affects millions of lives around the world and the foundation is at the forefront of efforts to find a cure and improve the lives of those living with this debilitating condition,” Jessica Dawnay, Breakbulk’s portfolio director, told delegates.
“Breakbulk has a proud history of giving back and making a positive impact. It’s a tradition that reflects our compassion, community and social responsibility – values that I know are shared by the whole team at AAL Shipping.
"Your dedication to raising resources and awareness through the Back to the Future Appeal is truly inspiring, so thank you for leading the way and setting such a positive example for all of us.”
