- Ports & Terminals
Located in the northwest of Portugal, on the Atlantic coast, the port of Viana do Castelo performs its activities on both banks of the Lima river. It is currently suited with excellent infrastructure and capable of meeting the necessary conditions for the exercise of activities related to trade, shipbuilding and repair, fishing and marina, making it an important strategic tool for regional development. As a pole of industrial dynamics and acting as an energy cluster, it contributes to attracting productive activities generating opportunities for the off-shore wind energy projects. Located on the left bank of the Lima river, the commercial port has installed capacity to process about 1 million tons of cargo/year, being accessible to ships of up to 8 metres draft and 190 metres long. It consists of two sections of pier with a total length of 487 metres, is equipped with six electric cranes, has a Roll-On/Roll-Off terminal and offers large areas for parking and storage of goods.
Over recent years, a cruise line has been calling the port, proving its ability and potential to meet the requirements of demand in this tourism market segment. The actual port of Viana do Castelo is therefore characterized by four features - commercial, industrial, fisheries and nautical sports.
