For its strategic location in the Northwest of the Iberian Peninsula, the Port of Leixões holds a privileged position in the European port system context. Leixões is mainly an export port, handling more than 15 million tonnes of goods and 700 thousand TEU’s, and serving virtually all types of ships, cargo, as well as cruises. It has several regular line services to the main European and world ports including direct connections to Angola, Mozambique and other African countries. In total, this port exports to 184 countries, exerting influence over an area of 14 million inhabitants.
