The Port of Leixões situated in the North of Portugal, handles more than 18,3 million tonnes per year and exports to 180 countries. Benefiting from a strategic location on the Northwest front of the Iberian Peninsula, with an hinterland rich in industry and commerce, the Port of Leixões has a privileged position in the European port system. Representing 25% of the Portuguese foreign maritime trade the Port of Leixões is mainly an export port and one of the most competitive and versatile multi-purpose ports in Portugal. 18,3 million are handled per year, about 660 thousand TEU and 2.600 vessels carrying all sorts of goods: petroleum, cereals, paper, scrap metal, iron and steel, granites, textiles, beverages, cork, wind energy equipment, and even passengers.
