Setting a New Standard: Introducing the European Trailer Operator Licence (ETOL)

How do you safely move 1,000-tonne ship sections or ultra-heavy reactor components? Until now, there has been no unified training or certification standard for the operators of these highly complex transports.

This session introduces ETOL, a new, industry-wide European training and qualification framework for operators of modular trailers, including SPMTs (self-propelled modular trailers). Developed by leading transport companies and equipment manufacturers, it sets a new benchmark for competence, safety and professionalism in heavy transport operations.

The session will take you behind the development of ETOL and share the latest on its implementation, rollout and industry adoption. It will also explore how ETOL can support harmonisation across Europe, reduce risk in complex projects and give clients greater confidence in execution standards.

With implementation planned for 2026–2027, this is an opportunity to understand what ETOL means for your organisation and how to prepare.
