Port Tarragona is one of the Mediterranean’s leading multipurpose ports for breakbulk and general cargo operations, strategically located on Spain’s north-east. With berths up to 20m draft, extensive open areas and warehouses and strong rail and road connectivity, Tarragona offers efficient and flexible solutions for a wide range of non-containerised cargoes.
Breakbulk traffic is one of the port’s key growth areas, supported by a diversified industrial and logistics ecosystem. Tarragona has consolidated a strong position in the automotive sector (best Spanish port for automotive logistics according to the Spanish OEMs association), steel and metallurgical products, forestry cargoes such as paper pulp, palletised goods and temperature-controlled warehousing services.
Project cargo activity complements this diversified profile, with regular handling of heavy and oversized industrial components linked to the energy, chemical and manufacturing sectors. The port’s operational flexibility, combined with open spaces, great weather conditions, specialised equipment and large storage areas, enable efficient handling of complex cargo operations.
On top of that, the new MPP terminal by PTP-COSCO with over 500,000m2 (end of 2026) and the future terminal for offshore Wind (2029) will add addtional capacity and expertise in breakbulk traffics.
This combination of infrastructure, industrial expertise and long-term investment strategy positions the Port of Tarragona as a reliable and competitive hub for breakbulk, project cargo and industrial logistics operations.
