Stefan Kouwijzer started his career in 2004 with Rickmers-Linie, Belgium, as a Customer Service/Operations Manager.
Having gained operational experience on board and in the terminals within the Antwerp range, he became operational manager with NHS NV (a Nova Natie and PSA Antwerp company) in 2012. The combination of working experience from a carrier and a stevedore perspective provided him with an insight and understanding of “both worlds”.
After a two-year spell on the stevedore side of the quayside, Stefan decided to relocate back to the carriers’ side by joining BBC Chartering as their Operations Manager, where he overlooked and streamlined the operations in the ARA range. Further on he expanded his knowledge as the Head of Cargo Handling Europe, North-Continent and Africa from an operational/technical perspective.
Since Q1 2022, he took on the role as a Global Supplier Management Officer, in which he is a.o. responsible for supplier contracts and vetting, including ports and terminals, on a global scale.
Ports are an integral part of the project cargo supply chain and, as such, changes and challenges in ports acutely affect other sectors. Currently, labour shortages, strikes, sustained increases in port charges, and inadequate port infrastructure are all impacting the wider supply chain. Collaboration across the board is required to ensure cargo movements are as efficient and predictable as possible for all parties. This session will bring together a panel from key European ports, as well as the wider supply chain, to examine the causes and possible solutions to the current challenges being faced and to map a path forward to improve efficiency across the board.
